Lisa Wilkinson's fears for son's safety following Berlin terror attack
Lisa Wilkinson has spoken about her fears for her son Jake this morning after she could not reach him in Berlin where he's currently staying.
The TODAY show host said she had been “distracted” this morning, waiting to hear news that he was safe after a suspected terror attack in the city. Nine people were killed and up to 50 injured after in the German capital.
"I couldn't believe it when that first report came through around about 6 o'clock this morning, I thought 'oh no'", she told viewers.
"Like so many parents of kids that go travelling throughout Europe, it's the not knowing. I couldn't get him on the phone."
His father Pete Fitzsimons and his two siblings had also been frantically trying to reach him, she said.
"I've been a little distracted this morning because my son Jake is in Berlin right now and I just got the message he's OK. We got that through Facebook... his phone's been switched off," she said on the show this morning.
"He wasn't anywhere near it, he was going to go to the night markets last night but decided against it and had a sleep instead."
Wilkinson has three children — Billi, Louis and Jake.
