Lisa Wilkinson laughs off 'gender pay gap' on Today Show

Lisa Wilkinson has laughed off suggestions she is being paid less than Karl Stefanovic after being grilled over reports her Today Show co-host earns more than double her salary.

During an interview on ABC's The Weekly with Charlie Pickering, Wilkinson last night rejected rumours of a gender pay gap, insisting she and Stefanovic had no knowledge of what the other was earning.

Pickering confronted the 57-year-old over reports Stefanovic, 15 years her junior, was earning "significantly more" than she was, asking her "Why do you think that is?"

Wilkinson replied: "And you believe everything you read?"

"I have no idea what Karl’s on, just as he has no idea what I’m on," she said.

But Pickering called "bullsh--" to Wilkinson's claims, and asked whether the two hosts had thought about having a "friend style pact" to both be paid the same.

Wilkinson said they hadn't.

"I can put my hand on my heart and say I have no idea what Karl is paid, and he has no idea what I’m paid," she said.

In 2016, The AustralianThe Australian Stefanovic was believed to be renewing his contract with Nine at an increased annual salary of $2.5 million, two-and-a-half times Wilkinson, who reportedly had re-signed with the network for an annual salary of $1 million.

This week marks 10 years since Wilkinson — who became editor of Dolly magazine at only 21 — joined Today.
