This charity is helping all mums, and you can be involved

Laura Turner

A Current Affair journalist Laura Turner volunteers for mums and children’s charity ‘St Kilda Mums’ and writes of their desperate need for community help.

Sniff, sort, fold, sniff sort fold, the procession of women working away on Tuesday night in Vale Street St Kilda is like the gentle chug of a steam train after dark.

Most people would call us crazy for setting foot on this strip at night, St Kilda's infamous underbelly of drugs and prostitution is always lurking in the shadows.

But right in the middle of one of Melbourne's most notorious spots there's a beautiful thing going on and it’s my privilege to be part of it.

There's one window on this street that lights up every Tuesday night and beams out into the darkness, and it's through the door below it that I enter a beautiful world of hope and change.
