The Kmart tidying hack every parent should know

Trying to organise the kids is all well and good, but when they’re moving at the speed of light and cluttering your house before you can say “pack it away!” it’s easier said than done.

However, one woman’s pencil holder hack could be the beginning of something very beautiful…

Anita Birges, a professional organiser and declutter, has found a simple way to keep those coloured pencils in one place - rather than on the floor as a health and safety disaster. Using some bargain buys from Kmart, she creates a turntable pencil holder for just $20. 

She then shows how you can make your own turntable at home for a fraction of the price.

Anita told 9Honey:

"I love a good Lazy Susan because it’s like a spinning tray. The biggest reason I came up with it was because when I would go to organise the kids’ craft area, it was just a mess. And if it’s a mess the kids won’t take care of it. If you make something look beautiful and organised, the kids follow your lead.

"I was at the house that I did the hack in, and the kids were like ‘it’s so cool, it spins!’ It means the tidy-up is literally off the table, put it away.

She told us that creating your own spinner doesn't just save money, but makes tidying more practical:

"Also what I like is that...in the other turntables if one breaks, because they’re all connected, you have to get rid of the whole thing. Whereas if something needs a clean or whatever, you just replace one pot instead of the whole thing."

"For such a chaotic area, something so small can make a huge difference," she explained.
