The $25 dupe makeup artist rates as good as high-end brand's version

A makeup artist has identified a cost-saving alternative to high-end brand Makeup by Mario, revealing a brush set that can achieve the same results for a fraction of the price.
Asha Jeffrey took to Tiktok to provide a candid comparison of Kmart's OXX Cosmetics five-piece dual ended ultimate brush set, and Makeup By Mario's lauded $72 F4 foundation brush.
Straight away, she praised the Kmart variation's density and similarity to the original product, but admitted that two brushes out of the set were needed to replicate the result achieved by one Makeup By Mario brush.

She said the dual-ended brushes differed slightly in their tapering, with the Makeup By Mario product featuring slightly longer bristles.
However a second, smaller brush in Kmart's five-piece set featured comparable tapering to the higher-end product, meaning a combination of the two brushes served the same purpose.
"In short to dupe this, you need both of these," Jeffreys stated.
She also added that while the brushes were a good alternative, she slightly preferred the flexibility of the Makeup By Mario option over the denser Kmart brush.

"Essentially you get the same result, but the experience is different," she admitted.
The makeup artist went on to say that the set was worth it – particularly given the Kmart pack came with five brushes for $25, over Makeup By Mario's $72 for the one brush.
"I do feel like I got a pretty good deal out of that," she said. "It's all about what's valuable to you."

The makeup artist also recommended other similar alternatives by Morphe, which is available at Mecca, calling them her "go-to" at a relatively cheap price point.
The $26 Morphe M103 angled cream and liquid foundation brush in particular features a similar tapered design to Makeup By Mario and its Kmart dupe.
Speaking to nine.com.au, Jeffreys revealed a number of techniques that can help achieve flawless finishes – even with budget brushes as your tool of choice.
"For the face, I've learned to adopt a patting motion rather than swiping." She revealed.
She also added that the key to getting the best results from your brushes was keeping them clean, and knowing which brush to pair with which product.
"Use synthetic fibres for liquids and creams, and fibres that mimic natural hair for dry products (i.e. powders)."
The brush cleaner from Aussie brand Saint Jack came highly recommended for post-use spot-cleaning, available in both a 200ml size for $38 and 800ml for $68.
It is recommended to clean your makeup brushes fortnightly to achieve the best results.
