Kmart Australia announces major Christmas sale on toy range

A fortnight out from Christmas, a handful of retailers, including Kmart Australia, Big W and Target Australia have announced they're slashing prices on a selection of toys.

Today Kmart Australia announced a selection of toys are being slashed by more than 50 per cent, including popular stocking fillers, like Hatchimals, Disney Pixar Toy Story 4 Dolls, Nerd Guns and even FurReal pets.

The retailer joins the likes of Big W and Target Australia, who too have dropped prices on a range of kids' play and learning items in the lead up to the silly season, seeing items such as Barbie Dream Houses, Frozen toys and outdoor play equipment reduced.

The announcement comes as Roy Morgan predicts Australians will spend more than $52.7 billion in retail stores across the Christmas trading period – 2.6 per cent more than consumers spent last year; a busy follow-up to the recent Black Friday sales, in which it was predicted by the National Australia Bank that Australians would invest $2.9 billion in.

Michele Levine, CEO of Roy Morgan, admitted recently she feared spending would be down over the Christmas period as states across the nation battled natural disasters.

"The pre-Christmas retail period has begun this year with many parts of Australia, particularly in New South Wales and Queensland, facing devastating bushfires and uncertainty about how long these conditions will persist," she said.

"We recognise that the ongoing threat of bushfires introduces a significant degree of unpredictability to these forecasts and we want to send our goodwill and prayers to everyone impacted by this natural disaster for a safe and happy Christmas and New Year period."

Meanwhile, General Manager of General Merchandise at Kmart Australia, Callum Smith, says he's "proud" to announce the news of the major sale to families ahead of Santa's arrival.
