Husband and wife stage 'kidnapping' to frame wife's boyfriend

A Louisiana woman has been charged with staging her own kidnapping so she could "set up" a man identified as her boyfriend, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

Rebecca Champion, 29, allegedly colluded with her husband Christopher John Champion, 33, to come up with the plan.

Police were called to conduct a welfare check on Mrs. Champion on December 10 after they were notified she had been kidnapped.

It was reported that her boyfriend had threatened to hurt Mr. Champion if the 29-year-old did not cooperate and go with him.

Officers arrived at an address they were given, where Rebecca Champion was found and confirmed the story.

She said her boyfriend had forced her into his truck.

However, when police searched her phone, they found texts she had sent proved the story was fabricated.

In a message to a friend, she said she was going to "set up [her] stalker" so he would leave her alone. After being questioned by police, the 29-year-old admitted to lying.

Mrs. Champion was charged with criminal mischief for filing a fraudulent police report. Her husband, who was found to have worked with her on the story, was in another jurisdiction and will be charged separately.
