Celebrity crushes often define us in our teen years, our bedroom walls plastered with photos of the latest heartthrob. But one woman managed to convince her mum that she had actually landed her celeb dream man.

Zahra Haider, 32, recently discovered her mum hasn't quite been keeping tabs on Hollywood hotties and as such had no clue who Keanu Reeves, Haider's celeb crush, was.

So Haider decided to play a little prank on her mum by messaging her to let her know that she had fallen in love with the man himself.

"Just wanna let you know I'm in love. His name is Keanu Reeves. Please give me your blessings," she texted her unsuspecting mother.

To her surprise, Haider's mum fell for it hook, line and sinker, asking her to "send a pic" so she could give her blessing.

Haider's mum didn't even catch on when the 32-year-old sent a photos of the John Wick actor, texting her daughter; "I am so happy and excited, he seems like an honest person."

Their adorable exchange also included talk of faith, with Haider writing that although Reeves isn't religious, he believes in god, something her devout Muslim mother was glad to hear.

"I'm sure he'll convert if you ask him nicely," Haider joked.

She later shared the conversation to Twitter, where the hilarious screenshots quickly went viral, hundreds of other Keanu Reeves fans loving Haider's mum's reaction.

While Haider certainly loves Reeves, she admitted that her mum's acceptance of him as her fake boyfriend was a surprise.

"As a brown immigrant mother she chose to uplift my happiness over hers and it was so special and touching," she told Elite Daily.

"That kind of support is rare in South Asian families and I wasn't expecting it at all. I feel so proud of her growth and honoured to be able to look up to her."

Returning to Twitter after her tweets gained thousands of likes, Haider added screenshots of a sweet message her mum wanted to share with her "new fans."

"I think when you build a bridge of confidence in any relationship you can achieve your goal," her mum wrote.

"I love you, adore you, and trust you."
