Kayla Itsines criticised for 'extravagant' baby shower

Australian fitness icon Kayla Itsines has been criticised by her social media followers after sharing photos of her lavish baby shower to Instagram.

The creator of the Bikini Body Guide workout program announced her pregnancy with fiancé Tobias Pearce last year. Their baby girl is due in May.

Over the weekend the couple celebrated with friends and family at a shower organised by Istines' sister Leah, who decorated the party with huge pink and chrome balloons.

"Our baby shower yesterday was so cute!" Itsines captioned a sweet photo of her and fiancé Pearce, which she shared to Instagram.

"My sister did such a good job organising it all, she’s going to be the best godmother ever!! Tobi was so happy and excited.

"Meanwhile this muffin has turned into a basketball hahaha," she joked of her baby bump, which was highlighted by the tight blush pink dress she wore on the day.

The shower also featured green vintage chairs, marble tables, personalised and individually-wrapped cookies that had fans wondering just how much it all would have cost.

While the majority of her followers encouraged her to enjoy the festivities and congratulated her on her pregnancy, another group emerged to criticise Itsines for such an "extra" shower.

"A bit extravagant for me," one follower commented, though other than the balloons and decorations there was little to go on when it came to guessing the cost of the shower.

Another person was concerned about the waste created by the party, writing: "Nice balloons, be cool when a marine animal chokes and dies on those. Least you have nice pics for your Insta fans."

However, the majority of Itsines' followers were simply amazed that she was wearing heels so far into her pregnancy.

"Omg heels! I can't wear them on a good day, let alone when pregnant," one joked.

Another wondered: "Legit how are you even wearing heels while preggo??"

Maybe it's just another Itsines trade secret she'll reveal in her online workout plans.

She and Pearce got engaged in February; Pearce keeping his proposal a secret until he popped the question at a 'surprise engagement party' he had set up with friends and family.

Itsines shared the photos from that event to her Instagram too, posing with her fiancé in a long white gown that showed off her growing baby bump.
