The debate surrounding Jeff Horn's victory over Manny Pacquiao on Sunday night continues to rage on social media, but his wife, Jo couldn't be prouder of her husband's win.
Speaking to The Courier Mail post title fight, she revealed her childhood sweetheart had a geeky side when they met at MacGregor High School in Brisbane aged just 13. She said he was "shy" and "quiet" and took up boxing to protect himself from the bullies.
"He’s still a bit of a nerd but now Jeffrey’s the world champion", she said.
"Wow. This has just been the most amazing day. An amazing day."
Currently expecting the couple's second child, Horn told The Fraser Coast Chronicle last week that the thought of her husband taking on Pacquiao was "a little bit scary".
She also said she couldn't believe "the shy, quiet boy I met at school would not only become a boxer, but fight in a worldwide bout like this".
"This is all just like a dream", she added. "It's like something from the movies."
"I know he'll do Australia proud. My nerves are OK now, but I know I'll be pretty emotional at the fight and I'll be yelling loudly for him."
The judges scored the bout 117-111, 115-113, 115-113, to hand Horn the WBO welterweight title at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium. But, the match divided boxing fans with many believing Pacquiao should have been crowned world champion.
