Cost of living has been putting more and more pressure on Aussies: for some that means reconsidering how often they're using the dishwasher, and for others that means packing lunch for work.

You see, back in the good old days, people could afford to leave their work space during their lunch break to purchase a meal and maybe even eat it outside the office.

But now, many workers are packing their lunch from home, leaving them to answer the question: where are we meant to eat it?

Some people like to take their meals outside in search of a park bench, but when you've got only 30 minutes of your lunch break, the journey can take up a decent chunk of that time.

Others like to sit in the break room or the kitchen area, but if you're eating around midday it can get pretty packed, and you'll often find yourself stuck in a conversation you don't necessarily want to be in.

The third option is to eat at your desk. But it seems that some Aussies have an issue with this one.

In an exclusive Nine.com.au reader poll, we asked if it's ever OK to eat your lunch at your desk, 15 per cent of respondents said no, 73 per cent said yes, and 12 per cent said that it depends.

There was one common consensus between those who responded yes and those who said it depends: you can eat at your desk as long as it doesn't stink, with the most common smelly foods noted as fish (tuna in particular), garlic and curried egg.

Other conditions noted were that eating at your desk is fine as long as it's OK with management and as long as you're not in a customer facing role.

Some noted that sometimes, when under the pump, eating at your desk is less of an option and more of a necessity.

So, if you're a desk-eater, it seems that you have the general overall approval of Australia to keep enjoying your meals in your workspace - as long as it's not fish, curried eggs, or garlic.
