Is it acceptable to take your shoes off at the cinema?
It's no secret that we Aussies like to go barefoot, but some argue that there is a time and a place where it should be allowed.
By the beach? At a servo? We can all agree that is more than appropriate, though one popular barefoot location has Australians divided.

We asked Aussies what they thought about it in an exclusive Nine.com.au poll and the results were, naturally, polarising.
Just 32 per cent of respondents said it was fine to go barefoot at the cinema, though they were defeated by those who strongly disagreed.

An overwhelming 68 per cent of respondents say it is not okay, "If you have shoes and socks on in a movie – keep them on."
One reader seemed to think going barefoot was fine under the right conditions: "Taking shoes off in a cinema is OK provided the place is not packed and no one close to you to smell it."

Another had a strong opinion on the matter, sharing a personal story to corroborate their 'no' response.
"During a typical Brisbane summer sweat-fest, I sought relief by attending an upmarket art-based cinema. Halfway through the opening credits, I could smell something horrific festering near my side. My gag reflex swung into motion as I scanned the immediate, darkened area. Pee yew!"
"Two pale, manicured feet were sidling into the crest of the seats next to me - comfortable with their elevated viewing platform. My stares of disbelief at the planta pedis owner were met with a shrug of nonchalance. Requests to remove her emitters of nasal offence were met with entitled defiance."

They concluded: "Moving seats saved myself prolonged exposure to the malodorous wafts. A cinema is NOT a private sanctum/lounge room. Respect for fellow cinemagoers should be common sense. D'uh!"
Some people, however, felt there is a fine balance. "Taking shoes off in a cinema is not good. But attending in thongs is fine," one added.
