Instagrammers beg internet for thousands of dollars for lavish trip

There's not much good-looking couples on Instagram won't do these days, but one social media duo have ignited fury after starting a fundraiser for them to bike from Germany to Africa.

Catalin Onc and Elena Engelhardt run the Instagram page Another Beautiful Day, and recently launched a GoFundMe to try to raise €10,000 ($16,000) for their upcoming trip.

With 40,000 followers supporting them on social media, the couple may have expected an outpouring of donations, but the fundraiser seems to have had the opposite effect.

The couple has faced harsh backlash from critics and fans alike, many accusing them of "begging" for money rather than going out and earning it the same way everyone else does - by getting a job.

Neither Onc nor Engelhardt currently work, the pair claiming that a normal job would be "detrimental" to them and their social media presence.

"When you have the impact we do on others’ life, getting a job is not an option," Onc wrote recently.

“We could model and make fast money, but we don’t want to advertise consumerism. A normal job at this point would be detrimental.”

Currently, Onc's mother funds their lifestyle, paying for their travel across Europe to cities including Rome and Paris by working two jobs, however Onc claims his mother "loves that she is able to help".

Recently Onc travelled to the Himalayas and trekked through Nepal, insisting that it would have been "selfish" for he and Engelhardt to not return to social media after his brief time away for the trip.

But fans seem to agree that the only thing "selfish" about the couple is asking for thousands of dollars to fund their Instagram lifestyle.

"This just seems like an adventure and a fun trip for you both and it has no significant reason to help anyone else in anyway," one fan wrote.

Another added: "This is ridiculous. Especially the reason why you can’t get money on your own."

Others called them out for claiming they didn't want to "support consumerism" by turning to modelling to earn a living, yet the pair still have "modelling" in their Instagram bio and regularly advertise their modelling work.

"You don't want to advertise consumerism BUT you want people to send you money that they have earned so that you can travel around the world free of charge?" one commenter questioned.

"You want to travel the world on someone else's money and have absolutely zero accountability in your life."

Several people have already reported the GoFundMe page, however Onc and Engelhardt are yet to respond to the backlash.
