"Brushes should be washed every two weeks, and I know you're not doing it, but I'm going to show you how to make it really easy to clean your brushes," she began.

Sweat explains that hairbrushes accumulate a mix of debris from your hair, which can include dead skin cells, hair oils, dust mites and even product buildup.

If left uncleaned, brushes become less effective and can also contribute to greasy hair and scalp irritation.

"That's why we need to make washing your brushes really easy," Sweat told viewers before explaining her method.

The hygiene expert instructed viewers to start with an empty jar they could keep within reach of their bathroom.

Secondly, she recommends removing all of the hair left in the brush before mixing water and shampoo in the jar.

"Let them soak for about 10 minutes," she said. You can also give the brush a light scrub to remove any debris.

If you have a wooden brush, avoiding soaking it in water may be wise. Instead, you can use the same mixture of shampoo and water on a damp cloth.

After solidly wiping the wooden brush with the concoction, use a separate cloth with just water to remove any leftover shampoo.

Once the hairbrush has finished soaking, pull it out of the jar and give it a thorough rinse before drying it on paper towels bristle-side down.

The video concludes, "Save this little hack as part of your New Year's cleaning routine. "
