So, as it turns out, most of us are pretty gross.

Now, before you go getting all offended by that statement, we want you to answer one question – how often are you cleaning your water bottle?

Some say once a week, others say every day, but according to cleaning expert Chantel Mila, it's still not enough.

Chatting with Today Extra hosts Sylvia Jeffreys and David Campbell, Mila shared that we really should be cleaning our water bottles after every use, followed by a deep clean once a week.

So, yes, that does mean if you're filling your water bottle up three times a day, you should also be cleaning it three times a day.

Now, you don't need to be doing a deep clean every day, but Mila says you do need to give it a scrub after every use.

"Especially the ones with the straws," she added, "so much gunk and bacteria can build up in there."

When it comes to your weekly deep clean, Mila shared a nifty little hack to make your life easier.

"A little trick is to use denture tablets," she shared.

"Just pop one or two denture tablets in there, let it fizz, wait an hour, and you're drink bottles are so much fresher without scrubbing."

But it's not just water bottles that we're not cleaning properly; Mila says Aussies are also neglecting their washing machines and dryers.

"The dryer and the washing machine are two items that should be cleaned relatively frequently," she said.

"So for your washing machine, it's about once every quarter so once every three or four months, I'd say.

"And a little trick for your washing machine – you know the seal that goes around the machine if you've got a front loader? It can be filled with mould.

"Just get some cotton balls, soak them in some hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar, place them in your seal for about an hour and then wipe it clean, and that should help kind of kill those mould spores that live in that little area."

And in terms of the dryer, Mila says the main thing to concern yourself with is the lint tray.

"Your lint tray in the dryer should be cleaned every use," she said.

"Because this lint, when it builds up, can cause fires and all sorts of things."
