After adding the white clothes into the bowl, the cleaner recommends adding a generous dashing of baking soda and giving it a good mix.

"This is the best way to keep your white clothes bright and white; you wanna start off by soaking your white pieces in boiling water and baking soda," they begin.

Baking soda can effectively remove yellowing and discolouration from clothing by breaking down stains' chemical structures, making them easier to wash away.

The video recommends soaking the whites for 30 minutes to an hour, though soaking overnight is most effective.

"Next, you wanna go ahead and throw it in the washer (washing machine) as you usually would," the video continues.

"Our sun is a natural bleacher, so I do like to set my whites out in the sun to sunbathe. I squirt lemon on the hard stains that didn't come out in the washer."

The sun's ultraviolet rays can cause some colourful clothes to fade, but they also brighten whites and kill various germs. The citric acid in lemons is also a natural bleaching agent that is extra effective when left in the sun.

The video concluded, "You wanna keep them out there [in the sun] for about two to three hours. This method keeps all of my whites white and bright."

This retro cleaning hack is visibly effective. After following the simple process, the white shirt in the video becomes noticeably brighter and cleaner.
