'I completely transformed my yard for summer - this $39 buy was my absolute must-have'

We've made it through the winter and it's officially time that we can (very excitedly) declare – summer is on it's way!

The days are getting longer, the drinks are getting colder and the sun is getting warmer, which means we can finally start spending some more time outside.

With summer comes barbeques with friends, tanning in the yard, and even the odd house party here and there, which means we need to make sure our yards are as prepared and excited for the months to come as we are.

So, I took it upon myself to transform the courtyard area of my Sydney sharehouse into the ultimate space for my roommates and I to spend time with friends.

I'm lucky enough to have won the lottery when it comes to the Sydney rental market with a huge outdoor space, but that also means that firstly, I'm always hosting, and secondly, I have a huge space to fill otherwise it just looks empty!

That means that before I started on my summer yard transformation, I had to get my hands on some more goodies – and I knew exactly what I wanted.

I was lucky enough to have Kmart send me two of the face down loungers that went absolutely viral last year.

This year, they've been released in an adorable sage gingham print.

When I first unpacked them I was a bit thrown off, I wasn't quite sure how to unfold it correctly. But the instructions were easy to follow and in about three minutes I had two ready-to-go lounge chairs.

I tested them out and surprisingly, it was quite comfortable lying face down with the head and arm holes at the perfect position to scroll while I tan. There's even a handy side pocket to store my bits and bobs!

Now I had my centrepiece, it was time to truly transform the space.

I uncovered the BBQ and gave it as good a clean as possible considering that it was a $20 score off of Facebook marketplace.

I crawled under the house (wouldn't recommend) to dredge out the plastic shell pool I'd purchased last summer and placed it nice and close to the hose to ensure minimal effort is required on my behalf.

The finishing touch was to find the most important part of any summer get together – an esky – and place it front and centre where it belongs.

While it might not be perfect yet, it's definitely getting there.

I need to move the wooden table to a more central place but it's unfortunately a two person job and no one else was home when I got the sudden urge to transform our backyard.

But, for a quick 30 minute attempt, I think it's looking pretty good, and definitely Summer ready.
