The $5 Kmart Christmas buy flying off shelves this year

It's five weeks until Christmas, and many Aussies have already begun putting up their trees and laying out their stockings.

Bows are all the rage again this year, be it on top of the tree, wrapped around the front door or as a design on the crockery and champagne glasses.

But Kmart is also seeing another trend really take off this season – gingerbread-themed items!

One of the retail giant's most popular items this year is its $5 Gingerbread House Salt and Pepper Shakers.

They're one of several gingerbread items that have already had to be restocked online by mid-November.

The $20 Gingerbread House Cookie Jar is also a winner, as are the gingerbread man cushions.

I was overwhelmed by all the cute decoration options at Kmart's Christmas Launch in Melbourne yesterday.

"More is more!" declared Kmart's head of brand PR and Social Jacinta Whitehead, and I had to agree.

We were both particular fans of the bows and stripes combination the team had put together on one table setting.

"You would think they would be too much together, but they're not for Christmas," she said.

Whitehead also rightly pointed out that while all the beautiful bow-themed candle sticks, crockery and glasses are great for Christmas, they can also be used for any celebration.

The same goes for the pink and red ruffle tablecloths and napkins.

The festive display extended right through an entire house.

"Christmas does not need to stay in the family room," she said.

"Why should Christmas stay in one room?"

In fact, Kmart's $20 Bows Cotton Rich Reversible Quilt Cover Set is another of the brand's most popular items this season.

The brand has ideas on how to bring Christmas joy into every part of the house, even offering Christmas-themed shower caps and bath mats.

The items are all designed to be affordable so the holiday period can be enjoyed by all.

You could easily dress your Christmas table for less than $100.

Kmart is also continuing its Wishing Tree Appeal for a 38th year to help the Salvation Army support those in need at Christmas.

Gifts bought from anywhere can be donated at Kmart stores and will be distributed to those in need.

Salvation Army's Major Warren Elliott has reminded Aussies that gifts are needed for all ages, including adults, with most donations being suited to children aged three to six.

"Parents need presents too," he said.
