Hillary Clinton's speech interrupted by adorable phone call

Hillary Clinton may be a distinguished politician, but she's also a grandmother - something we were all reminded of when her grandkids interrupted a speech she was delivering on Tuesday.

The former presidential candidate was speaking at the launch of Vote Mama, a group supporting Democratic candidates with young children, especially mothers working to balance politics and motherhood.

Clinton had been discussing the importance of supporting mothers who want to run for office when her phone began to ring midway through the speech.

"Oh dear," she said, pulling an awkward face as the loud ring sounded through the office.

It's awkward enough to have your phone ring in the middle of a speech, but what made it worse was that it wasn't a world leader of major politician calling – it was Clinton's grandkids.

"You’re not gonna believe this…" the former US First Lady said awkwardly as she pulled out her phone, "Yeah, it’s my grandchildren on FaceTime."

Then she went into true grandma mode and actually answered it.

Hillary and Bill Clinton have two grandchildren.

"Hi, Aiden! Hi, Charlotte! I’m at a meeting! I’m with all these people!” she laughed as she answered the call.

"Can I call― I’ll call you back, OK? I love you ― say hello to the people.”

Everyone at the event loved the sweet exchange, with the audience laughing and clapping as Clinton sheepishly ended the call and got back to business.

Of course, the internet also went wild for the whole exchange when a video of the moment made its way online.

"I love it how she automatically gets into full blown grandma-mode, and her voice is twice as loud, like with any grandma who talks to her grandkids," one user wrote.

"Also that she answered a FaceTime call like a regular call," another added, referring to the way Clinton put the video call up to her ear.

Other grandmas even weighed in, one writing: "I love that she took the call-doesn’t matter where I am or what I’m doing, if I get a FaceTime call from my grand babies it is ALWAYS answered."

She may not have won the 2016 election, but Hillary Clinton definitely won our hearts today.
