The two mystery verses of 'Happy Birthday’ nobody knows

It’s probably the most well-known song in the world, and watching people’s eyes awkwardly dart around the room as people sing it to them is one of my favourite pastimes.

‘Happy Birthday to you’ was supposedly written by the Hall sisters – Patty and Mildred – before the turn of the 20^th century – with the original lyrics being “Good morning to all.”

But the most shocking part of this revelation is that there are in fact TWO other verses in the song, that nobody ever sings.

Apparently the two extra verses are remnants from the original “Good morning” version, and they go like this: “From good friends and true, from old friends and new. May good luck go with you, and happiness too.

“How old are you now? How old are you now? How old, how old, how old are you now?”

We are absolutely shocked.

The song which is now public domain, has also had a spade of copyright issues over the years. It was initially copyright by Clayton F. Summy Co. in 1935, before going to The Birch Tree Group.

Warner/Chappell music then purchased the rights for $25 million in 1988 and was collecting $2 million in royalties every year.

But in 2015 a US federal judge ruled the song to be in the public domain and Warner was forced to settle the case for $14 million.

The world seems different now we know this information.
