Grenfell Tower victim gets top grade in exam taken just hours after the fire

A teenager who lived on the 13th floor of Grenfell Tower, the London government housing block that burned down in June killing at least 80 people, took a chemistry exam just hours after escaping the fire - and got an A.

Ines Alves, 16, had lived in the tower with her family her whole life. She was able to take her phone and her chemistry revision notes with her as she fled in the middle of the night - but the family lost everything in the fire.

"She'd been studying for that exam for such a long time," her brother Tiago told the UK's This Morning TV show. "She just wanted to get it over and done with, and take her mind off it [the fire] for a while."

"Were you able to block it out?" the host asked, and Ines said, "For that hour I was. But then once the exam finished was when I broke down in tears."

"At the time, I just thought it was a normal thing, going to sit an exam."

She can't forget the neighbours who lost their lives, and adds, “It still hasn’t really hit me that I’m never going to be able to go home.”
