'Bit of extra joy': Nostalgic Easter item makes grand return after six-year discontinuation
If you consider yourself a Darrell Lea devotee, you may be familiar with one of their most iconic and long-standing Easter-time traditions – the Fluffy Chick.
It was but a small addition to the store's Easter range, but this particular staple had made its mark among Aussie families for generations before quietly disappearing from shelves six years ago.
But it's official: the Fluffy Chick is making its grand comeback to Darrell Lea's nougat Easter eggs this 2026 season – much to the delight of choccy fans country-wide.

The Fluffy Chick is a long-standing Easter tradition throughout Australia, with the popular Darrell Lea nougat easter egg – complete with the Fluffy Chick in question – first launched in 1935.
The chick's rich history in Australian Easter culture was what motivated its return, along with an outcry from fluffy fans.
When the Chick first vanished in 2020, Aussies were despondent, demanding to know why the addition had been scrapped by the confectioner.
"WHERE IS THE FLUFFY CHICKEN? Over decades it has become an Easter tradition in our family. That little chicken just adds a bit of extra joy," shared one.

"I am 61 and for my entire life I've had a Nougat Easter Egg on Easter. I was devastated to open my egg and find no fluffy chicken! My childhood took a hit," added another.
Reports at the time indicated the company's decision to overlook the chook had been made in an attempt to modernise the brand following its purchase by Quadrant Private Equity in 2018.
One family explained it was the Fluffy Chick's long-standing place in Aussie households that had made its discontinuation all the more difficult.
"After generations, our family discovered there was no longer the little yellow fluffy chick. It's a little thing, but the little things can make all the difference," they explained.
Thankfully, this public feedback was taken on board by company execs, who ultimately decided to bring back the chick.
"We heard our fans loud and clear," shared Jane James, Head of Marketing at Darrell Lea.
