Mellow yellow lipstick is a thing

Red lipstick is a classic, pink is perfection and purple can take you into the early hours of the morning but the thought of yellow lipstick doesn’t have us smiling.

Fortunately, beauty editor Ashley Weatherford from New York magazine has done the lip work for us, testing US label Lipstick Queen’s latest release Mornin’ Sunshine.

Lipstick Queen, founded by Australian beauty entrepreneur Poppy King, has already gained fame with its gimmicky Frog Prince green lipstick, which changes into a pink tint on application. There's also Hello Sailor, which is Smurf blue before becoming blackberry.

With Mornin' Sunshine, the bright yellow quickly shifts into a more tolerable coral colour, with the intensity depending on your body’s pH levels.

"I wanted it to look like a yellow lipstick rising like the sun in a blue sky," Poppy told Allure magazine. So that the product feels as cheery as it looks, it contains vitamin E, natural oils and mango seed butter.

If you’re after more than a coral tint, layering Mornin Sunshine beneath your regular colour can add a hint of shine.

For the moment the lipstick is available from UK e-tailer Space NK but expect it to land soon at Mecca, which currently stocks Frog Prince.
