Why you should try this runway look next weekend

The old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rang true at Atelier Versace's couture show, where hair and make-up channelled the house's distinctive brand of allure:  sexy, centre-parted hair and a shimmering smoky eye.

"We're talking about modern glamour," make-up artist Pat McGrath told WWD. "Donatella [Versace] just really wanted a simple black eye – not layer upon layer upon layer."

While we've seen similar looks on the Versace runways before, this time around it was a little more attainable.

Don't believe us? McGrath herself admitted it was a look the models could easily have created themselves.

"It is not the black eye of amazing, amazing skill," she said. "It's a much easier, fresh approach to glamour."

All you need is a shimmery black shadow (swept over your entire eye lid), a gel liner (McGrath used the Black Caviar gel liner from her Phantom 002 make-up collection) and a ton of mascara (look for true black in a thickening and lengthening formula).

When it came to hair, Guido Palau used a curling iron and dry finishing spray to give locks a soft sense of movement.
