Victoria Beckham's grand designs

Victoria Beckham has lived through more lives (and hairstyles) than most.

But the pop star-turned-WAG-turned-designer showed there’s more than a streak of Posh still lurking beneath her restrained exterior when she sat down with fashion writer Suzy Menkes recently at London’s V&A.

“I want to empower women. I want women to feel like the best version of themselves, I want them to feel confident,” Beckham told the assembled crowd.

Warming to the girl power theme, she joked:  “I do what I do because I want to give my customer what she wants. I could say ‘what she really, really really wants’.”

While she’s still flying the feminist flag, Beckham is less enamoured of her old stage costumes.

“I wore a lot of PVC in those days, a lot of push-up tops and PVC catsuits, and lots of high heels and short skirts – but I don’t cringe too much about that. Everything was good at the time, and it made me who I am now. I wouldn’t wear those things now necessarily…they were awful!”

Perhaps the signs were there all along...
