Still trending: ripped jeans

For the past couple of summers, Australians have wholeheartedly embraced ripped jeans. The laidback, almost rebellious vibe of torn denim perfectly suits our national style and climate.

But with the recent rise in popularity of flared, cropped and boyfriend jeans, we’d started to think that ripped jeans were a summer fling to be packed away with rosé-filled evenings and the bottle of aloe vera.

If you’ve rotated your ripped denim to the bottom of the pile, stop right there. Because if the northern hemisphere is anything to go by, there’s life in those jeans yet.

Ripped jeans are getting some serious cool-girl endorsement from the models of the moment (think: Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin), who are pairing theirs with crop tops, sneakers and tough ankle boots for off-duty nonchalance.

Style veterans Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Olivia Palermo are taking them to a more polished, grown-up place with pumps and structured blazers, while Rihanna pairs hers with anything and everything (hello, fluffy kitten heels).

It’s well and truly time to revisit last summer’s crush.
