Show-stopping spring racing beauty

Back a winner in the beauty stakes this Spring Carnival, with the season's hottest make-up looks.  

Face first

Keep skin looking supple, hydrated and healthy with a fresh foundation will take you through to the last race. 

Choose a formula that adjusts to your skin's unique colouring and has light reflecting pigments to enhance to your complexion, such as L'Oreal Paris Infallible 24H Stay Fresh Foundation

Massage it between your palms and fingers as you would a moisturiser. Then, gently press your face into your hands to distribute the colour evenly over your skin. Now, using the pads of your fingers, blend the colour to a seamless finish over your face and neck, taking extra care around the nostrils, brows and hairline. 

Browsing around

Brows are bold, but groomed to perfection at all times. A brow mascara such as Models Prefer Brow Serum will help tame, add tone and set in place for the day. 

First, wipe the brush with a tissue to remove excess product — it's much easier to build up as you go than it is to remove too much later. 

To create an open-eyed effect, aim to set your brows higher rather than flat. Begin at the inner corner of the brow and lightly sweep the brush in an outwards-upwards direction. 

The naked eye

Keep eyelids contoured — not coloured — in shades of nude. Choose a palette with a selection of shades suited to your skin tone, like Maybelline's The Blushed Nudes Shadow Palette 

Apply a neutral shade under your brows that's lighter than your natural skin tone. The light will bounce off it and create a lifted, wide-awake effect. Blend from the inner corners of the brow along to the outer edge, sticking close to the hairline.

Take a sable or tawny brown and contour into the eye socket and the lower eyelid. Blend well to enhance the curve of the lid, rather than add noticeable colour. 

Finish by smudging smoky chocolate brown in the outer corners of the lid, super close to the lash line. 

Lash attack 

Prep your lashes using eyelash curlers to turn them skywards. 

Use a lash primer to act as a base for mascara to adhere to, as well as build mega-volume. Apply one coat of mascara to top and bottom lashes. Allow to dry and apply a second coat to top lashes. Our pick: Max Factor False Lash Effect Epic Mascara

For serious sultriness, apply a few individual false lashes to the outer corners of the eyes. Try 1000 HOUR Individual Flared Lashes Short Black 

Get cheeky 

Choose a soft coral powder like Australis Show Some Cheek and apply it using a top-quality brush. 

Swirl the tip of the brush into the blush to pick up colour. Tap away excess and lightly blend into the apples of your cheeks, extending upwards towards the temples. 

Lip love

Keep lips nude for this look — let your lashes do the talking. 

To find the right nude for your colouring, turn your bottom lip out and match your lipstick to the skin inside your mouth.
