We all know a good quality handbag comes at a steep price, but would you be willing to pay this much?

What is being deemed the world's most expensive handbag has been unveiled at Paris Fashion Week 2024, designed by luxury brand Rabanne (formerly Paco Rabanne) for their spring/summer 2025 collection.

The bag is made up of 100 18-karat gold medallions and worth a whopping €250,000 (approx. $407,730).

Titled the 1969 Nano bag, it was crafted in a collaboration between Maison Rabanne and French jeweler Arthus Bertrand and took 100 hours of craftsmanship to create, as per Women's Wear Daily.

"In a perfect fusion of our two houses, I immediately had the vision of the Rabanne pastille twisted into a medal," artistic director Camille Toupet of Arthus Bertrand said in a statement.

The handbag is a tribute to the brand's famous "most expensive dress", which was made in 1968 for French singer Françoise Hardy, who died earlier this year.

She made fashion history when she wore the gold medallion dress, made up of 1000 gold tiles and 300 carats of diamonds, complete with a full security escort and armoured vehicle.

She was "like a precious treasure," Rabanne's creative director Julien Dossena told WWD.

The fashion house is also debuting two other bags made of unusual materials and crafted in heritage artisanal workshops.

It was made famous for it's brushstroke-like marbling effects in different colours, which has since been popular and commonly replicated.

The Handcrafted 1969 Ceramic Bag on the other hand is made up of ceramic discs crafted by Astier de Villatte, a Parisian ceramics workshop.

They have preserved the 18th-century manufacturing traditions and the art of "estampage" (stamping), which shapes the clay by pressing it into plaster molds to create delicate textures and irregular shapes.
