10-year-old’s clay nails go viral

Harriet Armstrong

In an age where North West knows her way around a hair straightener and North West knows her way around a hair straightener, there’s no denying that mothers are usually their daughter’s first beauty heroes.

A mother in the US learnt this first hand when her daughter came up with an innovative way of imitating the look of stick-on nails.

Serafina Peña took to Twitter
to share a snap of her ten-year-old daughter’s nails covered in dark grey Play-Doh with her 468 followers.

"I told my 10yr old she couldn’t have press-on nails so she made some out of clay," she posted on July 11.

"She used to be a nail biter. After trying everything, we made a promise to each other- if I practiced nail art on her would she stop biting," she posted on Twitter.

"She said yes, & I’ve been doing her nails since. But, this time around she wanted press-ons and I said no. Lol."

Owing to the rise of shellac and gel formulas, press-on nails tend to get pushed to the back of the nail trend bus.
