'Funny story': $2 detail in model Hannah McKnight's vibrant Melbourne Cup Day day look
EXCLUSIVE: Melbourne Cup Day is dripping with big names and expensive designer brands, but one attendee decided to get a little thrifty with her race day look.
Model and influencer Hannah McKnight opted for a stunning pink ensemble for her day at the races complete with a statement boater hat.
The hot pink hat fits in among the countless spectacular hats and fascinators on show at Flemington, but it turns out it was the result of a "family DIY" project.

Speaking to nine.com.au upon arrival at Flemington, McKnight revealed that she personalised her hat for the event using supplies she grabbed at her local craft store and two dollar shop.
After getting her hands on the Morgan & Taylor boater hat, the model tells nine.com.au she "wanted a bit more".
"Funny story... so I actually went over to Lincraft and the two dollar shop and I built this massive bow," she explained.
Once she has fashioned the giant bow out of fabric, she had her dad sew it onto the original hat for her.

McKnight paired the dollar shop hat with a stunning hot pink mini from Billy J Boutique.
The gown, which is the Carrie Mini Dress from the popular Australian brand, features a fitted waist and flared out skirt with sculptural tulle overlay, that resembled a flower.
Keeping the hot pink theme alive, McKnight added a pair of hot pink evening gloves and opted for a bold lip.

"I really wanted to wear bright today because I was like Melbourne Cup is sort of the only day you can really go all out," McKnight told nine.com.au of her bold look.
