Meghan Markle wears hair in a messy bun and internet loses it

This week Meghan Markle switched up her signature hair style of loose, flowing curls for a messy bun and it sent the world into a hair-induced frenzy.

The former Suits actress stepped out in London with fiancé Prince Harry for her second official royal engagement on Tuesday to visit to youth radio station Reprezent in Brixton. It was here she decided to ditch the blow wave for a more natural, low-key look.

Many are saying the princess-in-waiting broke traditional royal beauty protocol (there is such a thing, still want to be royal?) by tying her long brown hair back, while the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is never seen in public without a professional blow dry or an elaborate up-do.

While others are praising the royal beauty for keeping it real with a relatable, low-maintenance hair style.

The good news for us non-royals is that this look is easy to recreate. In fact, you may already be half there with your tying -your-hair-off-your-face look while you perfect your beauty routine most mornings.

To get you all the way there, Salon Director George Giavis told 9Style exactly what you'll need to know to replicate the fuss-free yet elegant look.

Movement is key

The first step to nailing a messy bun is to give your hair as much texture as possible to work with.

"Dry Shampoo will be your best friend and adds texture to the roots," tells Giavis.


Secure your style

After giving your tresses as much added volume as possible you will need an elastic band and bobby pins to help put your bun together.  

"Gather the hair into a medium ponytail and secure with an elastic band. The ponytail develops from the loose upswept ends of the twist," said Giavis.

"Bobby pins will secure your style Wrap a few sections with a curling iron before pulling them back."


The messier the better 

Messy hair is meant to look lived in, so the softer and more undone your bun looks the better.

"When pulling back your hair if it’s too severe just pull out pieces as this will soften and frame your face," adds Giavis.

"Do not pull your hair too tight as this will fracture the hair and create breakage."
