Mum's miracle hack for unshrinking clothes with conditioner

Yes, we have all destroyed a garment or two because we've washed or dried them incorrectly.

Shrinking clothes is an unavoidable part of life, but thanks to one US mum it doesn't have to be an unfixable one.

Bonnie Wyricks from Omaha, Nebraska discovered hair conditioner can help unshrink clothes in just 20 minutes.

Revealing her hack in a TikTok video, Wyricks explained she accidentally shrunk her floral dress in the washing machine.

Standing in front of her mirror with the strapless dress, the mum of one shows the purple garment has been shortened to thigh-length.

Instead of disposing of the spring outfit, Wyricks soaks it in hot water, adding a quarter of a cup of cheap hair conditioner to re-stretch the dress to its original form.

"Soak in hot water with a cheap hair conditioner for 20-30 min!" she instructs her viewers.

Drying the dress on a coat hanger, Wyricks then tells users to "gently pull" the clothes in "all directions to stretch".

At the end of the video, captioned "Another tutorial on how to fix the clothes you shrink in the dryer!", Wyricks reveals the stunning result: her dress has returned to its former glory.

Viewed over 269,000 times, Wyricks' hack was quickly branded as a "miracle" by viewers.

Like it does to our hair, the conditioner eases into the fibres of the clothes, relaxing the fabric and making it easier to stretch and reshape.

Seems simple enough, but many TikTok users were astounded they hadn't thought of the idea themselves.

"This might be life-changing. This happens too often," marveled one user.

"You just changed my life," gushed another.

One commenter shared their own garment-stretching tips: "You can also hang dry things and they won't shrink! But this is good to know just in case I throw something in the dryer accidentally!"
