Four ways to make your eyes pop

There is a scene in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby where Leonardo DiCarprio (pre dad-bod) turns to the camera, champagne in hand, and reveals to Tobey Maguire’s character Nick Carraway that he is, in fact, The Great Jay Gatsby.
While this revelation sets the whole plot in motion, it’s Leo’s eyes that are the real drawcard for me. They’re so blue, so sparkly, you could almost swim in them. It’s little wonder so many models have fallen victim to their charm.
The takeaway? Eyes aren’t just the window to the soul, they also have the ability to mesmorise. So why not make the most of them?
Here, celebrity make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury shares her pro tips on how to really make your peepers pop.
#1 Invest in lash curlers
“Always use lash curlers, they are like a push-up bra for the eyes – they lift, open and widen. I never do an eye look without them.”
#2 Master the feline flick
“I’ve been wearing a feline flick since I was a teenager. It lengthens and defines the eye.
“Run an eye pencil close to the top lash line, thickening as you get two thirds of the way across and tapering off 2mm from the outer edge of the eye. My Rock N Kohls are a unique hybrid which glide on like a liquid but can be smoked up like a kohl.”
#3 Go for bigger, brighter eyes
“Apply a nude-beige pencil along the lower waterline to create the illusion of wider, bigger and brighter eyes.”

#4 It’s all about the flutter
“Layer several coats of mascara, working the wand diagonally outward toward the flick for a more feline shape. I used to mix 5 mascaras to get the lashes I desired: curl, volume, length, separation and drama.”
Tip: For those how are a little afraid to try some colour on their eyes, Tilbury suggests trying a coloured eyeliner close to the lashline. “A blue shade along here can really make brown eyes pop,” she adds.
“Also, you can apply a bright colour close to lash line, blend well and then apply a liner over the top, smoking them together to lessen the intensity.”
