Let's start 40 years ago.
When she was just eight years old, Barrymore attended her first-ever Academy Awards in 1983.
Barrymore had started to make a name for herself after starring in the wildly popular sci-fi film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial as Gertie.
The child actress attended her first Oscars a year after the movie's release with her mother Jaid Barrymore.
For the special occasion, Barrymore wore a layered pink dress with a stark white fur coat, matching her mum's.
The actress wore a pearl necklace gifted to her by E.T. director Steven Spielberg, as she revealed in a throwback interview with Entertainment Tonight.
This was just the beginning of her commitment to red carpet glamour.

In the '80s, it was all about her perm.
Now in her early teen years, Drew Barrymore was embracing the trends of the decade with her hair crimped and wearing high-waisted jeans.

By this time, Barrymore had made a name for herself in E.T. and was still racking up some acting credits with performances in Firestarter and Cat's Eye.
But it was the '90s that would take her from a rising actress to a full-fledged movie – and fashion – star.
1990
Leather jackets were all the rage in the '70s and '80s – just ask Drew Barrymore.
The actress kept the trend alive at the turn of the decade for a 1990 appearance.

Before Bella Hadid or Kendall Jenner, Drew Barrymore was leading the timeless crop top and jeans look back in the early '90s.
The actress, now around 15 years old, wore this casual red polka top and light blue jeans, paired with a bold lip colour for The Freshman premiere in 1990.
In an old interview the star said she preferred to save and buy high-end denim, explaining, "Jeans, I feel like you can wear forever."
"Jeans and an old, threadbare T-shirt. That's my favorite combination. I throw a blazer over that and I can go anywhere!" she told Lucky as per Glamour Magazine.
1992
If you've started to notice a denim theme, you'd be right on the mark.
Whether its jeans or shorts, Barrymore really loved a good denim moment on the red carpet in the '90s.
The 17-year-old actress wore these light blue denim shorts for the Reservoir Dogs premiere at the Galaxy Theatre in Hollywood in October 1992.
One thing that shocked about her look: the new bold and much shorter haircut.
