Ageing skin is a natural part of life and while some embrace it, for others it can be a source of frustration. There are, of course, facial treatments available, both surgical and non-surgical, that may reduce signs of ageing, according to leading cosmetic surgery clinic, Dr Daniel Lanzer.

Laser Resurfacing

One of the non-surgical procedures that may reduce visible signs of ageing, including fine lines and wrinkles, is laser resurfacing, says Dr Lanzer. A laser targets certain layers of the skin, which are strategically damaged to promote collagen production, which may assist in the appearance of smoother skin with less wrinkles and fine lines.

The Aura Revlite laser, for example, can promote collagen production, but may also be used to tackle other skin-related problems, such as acne scarring.

The Facelift

While originally at the extreme end of the cosmetic surgery scale, the traditional facelift has evolved through the arrival of new techniques, such as the mini facelift and the SMAS facelift.

A facelift is not a procedure that is always chosen to reduce wrinkles; in fact, it may be used to address other aspects of the natural ageing process such as loose facial skin and a sunken appearance. Surgical techniques used during the treatment can be adjusted by the patient’s specific complaint.

The Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is otherwise known as eyelid surgery, which is focused on attempting to address problems such as excess fat and skin on the upper and lower eyelid. Much like other surgical procedures that are used for facial rejuvenation, the procedure can be adjusted to meet the needs of the patient.

The Fat Transfer

The natural ageing process can cause the loss of volume in the face. Naturally, this is a problem that is difficult to address and has led to the arrival of the fat transfer.

During a fat transfer, a cosmetic surgeon will harvest fat from the patient’s body. The harvested fat is treated and then reintroduced inside the treatment area. As such, the fat transfer can reintroduce fat inside sunken cheeks or other areas of the face that appear sunken.

The DermaSweep

A DermaSweep is a non-surgical, microdermabrasion treatment with a device that contains unique bristle tips.

Treatment with the DermaSweep may enhance lymphatic drainage and skin oxygenation. DermaSweep also encourages the delivery of nutrients to deeper layers of the skin, which can renew the outer layers and may make skin appear more radiant.

Facial rejuvenation does not stop there, with other treatments including the Dermapen, Ultherapy, Isolaz, and many more. Dr Lanzer advises you to do your homework: all surgery has risks and it is always best to get a second opinion by a dermatologist or an experienced cosmetic surgeon.
