Prince Harry fans wait for hours to catch a glimpse of their favourite royal

Prince Harry fans gathered in droves and waited for hours this week for the chance to catch a glimpse of their favourite royal.

The 32-year-old visited the Civic Centre in Gateshead, England, on Tuesday mornning, where he was greeted by hundreds of fans, eager to shake hands and present bunches of flowers to the young royal. 

The Prince, a passionate advocate for military mental health, visited the centre to attend a charity event hosted by Walking With The Wounded to discuss issues facing ex-servicemen and women.

After arriving in a black Range Rover, clad in a puffer jacket, the prince graciously greeted his fans before going inside to the event.

Draped in union flags and clutching flowers, Julie Cain, 53, from Byker, and Maria Scott, 46, from Gateshead, told the Daily Mail they had been waiting to see the Prince since 8am that morning.

"We're big royalists, but we love Harry especially," Ms Cain said.

Ms Scott said she thought the prince's work with projects involving ex-military mental health was "amazing".

"He's giving these people a voice and they've struggled to be heard in the past," she added.

Adam Petson, 39, talked to Harry about becoming involved in crime after leaving the Army. He described him as "charismatic" and "down-to-earth".

"He really did listen. It's lovely seeing someone taking a real interest, especially someone of his stature," he added.

"He does have a passion for it, you can see that in the way he speaks, his eye contact, he wants to know your story but also what he can do to influence changes in the system."

At another event later that same day, Prince Harry took more time to greet onlookers, despite his packed schedule.

It seems the Prince couldn't resist an adorable plea from one young boy in the crowd, who called out to him. 

His grandmother Sue Bell told Chronicle Live she and her grandson had arrived very early that morning.

"I was really pleased when Prince Harry came over, I didn’t think he was going to, it was really nice."
