After learning why my dog sleeps on my pillows, I'll never be able to look at him the same
My dog is basically a big baby, and he is treated as such.
So, when he goes to bed every night and falls asleep with his head snuggled into the pillows beside me, I've never thought much of it – he's a spoilt Golden Retriever, it's what he deserves.
But recently, TikTok has gotten wind of the reason dogs sleep with their heads on their owner's pillow, and after stumbling across the videos myself, I'll never be able to look at my dog the same.

Ever since he was a puppy, my dog Nelson has slept with his head on my pillow and of course I find it adorable, but I thought it was simply for comfort.
Turns out I was wrong.
Apparently, the reason so many dogs prefer to sleep this way is because the pillow smells like their owner and they find it comforting.

I'm tearing up just thinking about it.
Not only does Nelson sleep this way over night, he sleeps this way basically all day everyday.
Whenever I'm out or at work and one of my roomates is home, they will send me pictures of Nelson asleep on my pillows.
And just thinking about him sleeping there because he finds it comforting while I'm not home, is breaking my heart.
Not only does he sleep on the pillows, he also cuddles the teddies I have had on my bed since I was a baby (yes I still sleep with those teddies and no I don't want to hear anyone's opinions on that).

Nelson has a habit of ripping to shreds every stuffed toy I buy him, but he wouldn't dare ever touch the teddies on my bed.
I've always wondered why he does that, I never had to teach him that he wasn't allowed to chew them, he just knew.
But now that I know the reason he sleeps on the pillows, I've chosen to apply that to the teddies and convince myself that the reason he would never dare chew them up is because they smell like me and he just loves me so much.
Just look at how cute he is. Supplied
Basically what I've learnt here is that Nelson is just as obsessed with me as I am with him, which is a very comforting thought considering I treat him (and spend money him) like a human child.
However, there is a undertone of sadness in the fact that every time I'm out of the house he goes to sleep in my bed because he misses me.
So, I guess I can never leave the house again, because god forbid Nelson ever feel a negative emotion – my heart can't handle that.
