A little pug named Vito has beaten almost 2,000 dogs to take out the title of best in show at the 2024 National Dog Show in the United States.

Vito may be small but he's also mighty, and the proud pug, competing under his registered show name GCHG Andi in Cahoots, impressed judges, an at-capacity crowd and millions watching the live broadcast.

And we can see why – look at that face!

Vito's handler Michael Scott said in a statement that he was "optimistic" that the pug would win at the canine competition as he "has a beautiful head and expression".

And the judges agreed.

"Compact, features, movement – everything a pug should be," best in show judge George Milutinovich said of the winning pup.

"Wow. Just wow. Lots of dog in a small package. To look at a pug is to put a smile on your face," he added.

Vito's win is another notch in his belt of impressive achievements with the pug and his handler having a stellar few years on the dog competition circuit.

Last year, the pug won best of breed at the AKC National Show and earned best in breed earlier this year at the Westminster Dog Show.

With this most recent win, Vito has now collected a total of 25 best in show titles from around 75 different dog shows.

Not only has he taken out some impressive wins, but Vito has also made history as the first pug to be named best in show at the National Dog Show since it was first televised in 2002.

The televised dog show, which is an annual Thanksgiving tradition held after the famous Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, featured more than 1900 dogs from more than 200 breeds competing for the coveted prize.
