A virtual UK parliament meeting was gate crashed by the unlikeliest of guests on Tuesday, as one of the member's cats decided to make an unexpected appearance.

John Nicolson, a parliament member for Ochil & South Perthshire, was deep in discussion in the meeting when his face was suddenly obscured by a fluffy, orange tail.

The tail – which belongs to his pet cat, Rojo - waved across the screen before Nicolson quickly apologised for Rojo's impoliteness.

"I apologise for my cat's tail," he said, much to the amusement of his fellow members of parliament.

But his cat seems to have a taste for the spotlight, continuing to wiggle his tail across the camera as Nicolson worked to get him under control.

"Rojo, put your tail down, please," he said, batting the cat's tail away from the camera.

Of course, that only resulted in more laughs, brightening up what seemed to be a fairly serious meeting about putting subtitles on children's television programs.

Rojo continued to hog the spotlight. Twitter

A video of the adorable interruption was quickly shared to social media, where it went viral as millions of people working from home can surely related to Nicolson's experience.

Rojo also gained overnight fame, and Nicolson was happy to let his cat bask in the spotlight on Twitter.

"For all Rojo's new fans (thousands across the world it seems) - you've seen the tail. Here's the face," he Tweeted today, alongside a photo of the sweet ginger cat.

Other Twitter users then started sharing photos of their own felines, suggesting they could set Rojo up on a date with them.

Nicolson had a clever reply for that too, tweeting that Rojo will "never marry for money".

Since the coronavirus pandemic began, millions of workers have gone remote, working from their homes in a bid to avoid the pandemic.

The added benefit is that their pets are their new co-workers, but that can backfire when they decide to make unexpected appearances during important meetings.

At the start of the pandemic, a weather man from the US was interrupted by his dog barking in the middle of a live broadcast.

NBC 5 reporter Scott Connell, from Missouri, was in this middle of the forecast when his dog Maple began barking in the background.

"Anybody else have a dog that really wants to be part of every experience?" Connell said, posting a video of the hilarious broadcast to Facebook.
