Can dogs eat pasta? The answer is a little more complicated than you might think
Pasta is often a go-to meal for a household looking for a quick, easy and delicious dinner.
And most households with a dog consider them to be a part of the family, so technically they should get a little bite of that tasty pasta too – right?
Well, the answer is a bit trickier than a straight yes or no, but if you want to feed your furry friend some pasta there are several things to keep in mind.

Can dogs eat raw pasta?
This one is pretty self explanatory.
No, dogs cannot eat raw pasta the same way humans can't really eat it either.
Raw pasta can serve as a choking hazard for dogs and can also end up causing internal blockages which can lead to issues such as vomiting, diarrhea or worse, an expensive trip to the vet.
Can dogs eat pasta without sauce?
Most pastas are made from a combination of flour, eggs and water, all of which are okay for dogs to eat but when mixed together not considered to be the healthiest combination.

So dogs can eat plain pasta in moderation, but essentially it's just empty calories.
A wholegrain pasta has a lot more nutrients in it including fiber and selenium, but the amount you would need to feed your pooch for them to get any health benefits wouldn't be worth the pounds they'd be packing on.
So although a small amount won't hurt them, if you can avoid feeding your dogs pasta, it's probably for the best.
Can dogs eat pasta with sauce?
Now just because your dog is fine to have a piece of plain pasta here and there it doesn't mean a little bit of sauce won't hurt them because chances are, it could.

Most pasta sauces are packed with delicious ingredients such as garlic, onions, salt and butter.
All of these ingredients are big no-nos for your furry friend.
So, if you do decide that you simply must share a piece of pasta with your dog, make sure it's cooked and plain – and don't give them much.
