'My most vulnerable moment': Actress Yael Stone shares her birth story

Vowing to "not get caught up in the bullsh-t" after a hiatus from social media, Yael Stone got real with us by sharing her entire birth story on Instagram.

"I'm sharing the most vulnerable moment I've ever experienced," she told her one million followers, before going into detail about giving birth to her daughter in one of two posts.

"We labored at home for 18 hours, hoping to deliver there naturally," she wrote.

"The first 10 hours I felt like a warrior, after that something changed. The next 8 hours had me questioning myself, digging deeper than ever before and still not making the progress that our baby needed."

"I felt like a failure when [I] knew it was time to go to hospital but we were so incredibly lucky to have that as an option."

The Orange Is The New Black star accompanied her first post with a picture of her in the at-home birthing tub, cradled by her partner Jack Manning Bancroft. Manning Bancroft is the founder of AIME, the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience program.

In the second post, she continued writing about the experience, sharing a photo of herself in hospital.

"By hour 21 of labor I was being rushed off for an emergency C section," the 33-year-old shared.

"When our beautiful daughter arrived she needed help to breathe and I needed help stay conscious. Without modern medicine and the expertise of the doctors and nurses our baby would not be here, I would not be here."

Stone continued to talk about the Aminata Maternal Foundation, an organisation that assists mothers who give birth in Sierra Leone. A country where, she explains, "you are 200 times more likely to die giving birth than in Australia."

While her "birth experience was not what [she’d] wanted", Stone felt "lucky" to welcome her baby daughter, Pemau Stone Bancroft, on May 30 this year.

"She was named after her great great great grandmother who provides a powerful link to the past, the Bancroft’s oldest link to the Djanbun clan of the Bunjalung nation," US Weekly reported in June.
