Baker mum makes incredible twin toddler birthday cakes

Mum Lara Mason knew that when her toddler twins turned one, she wanted them to have a very special birthday cake.

And Lara is a baker.

Enter: The best cakes ever. Seriously, show us a better creation than this. At first glance, it's honestly difficult to say which are cakes and which are babies. (Both are lovely, for the record.)

"Under a bit of pressure with the girls first birthday Cake/Cake Smash," Lara, who runs her own business (Lara Mason Cake Art), wrote on Facebook.

"So I decided to do what any other slightly bonkers person would do and combine the two!"

By anyone's birthday catering standards this is above and beyond. Think back to your last birthday cake. What was it – a supermarket cake from your colleagues? A Kit Kat? Whatever it was, it seems pretty safe to say it wasn't a life-size version of yourself made out of chocolate, complete with spun-sugar hair.

"Totally get this won't be everyone's cup of tea," Lara added, incorrectly.

"[But] I thought to myself... Why not?! I mean, what other kids get to say that their mum made them life-size cakes of themselves for their 1st birthday!?"

The UK mum told Love What Matters that the cakes took close to 120 hours to finish, along with "44 eggs, 2.2kg of flour, butter and sugar, 4kg of chocolate and around 5kg of buttercream".

"I'll be cleaning buttercream out of the floorboards for months," Lara wrote on Facebook. "But I reckon it was 100 per cent worth it."
