Ten-year-old boy invents device to help stop children dying in hot cars

A little boy from Texas has come up with a creative idea to help prevent the deaths of children left in hot cars.

Bishop Curry, 10, has invented the Oasis – a small gadget that looks a little like oversized Lego, which monitors the temperature inside the car.

Once it gets to a certain level, the device emits cool air while simultaneously alerting parents and authorities via an antenna.

The fifth grade boy was inspired to come up with something to help after the tragic death of his six-month-old neighbour, who was left in an overheated car.

Although he only has a 3-D model of the device at the moment, his father has managed to raise $31,826 ($24,000 USD) for Bishop's invention on GoFundMe.

In the USA alone, since 1998 around 712 children are thought to have died from heatstroke in the US alone after being left in hot vehicles and every year in Australia over 5000 children are rescued after being left unattended in cars.
