While plenty of women love motherhood, one stay-at-home mum has admitted that the "hates" being a parent in a heartbreaking confession online.

Taking to Reddit, the woman revealed that she wished she had known what parenting was "really like" before she decided to have a child.

She explained that while she honestly does love her two-year-old daughter, she "really hates" being a mother.

"I hate the immense responsibility, I hate that all she wants is me a lot of the time," the mum wrote.

She added that while things "aren’t as bad" as when her daughter was first born, and that she does her best to be a good mum, she still "hates it”.

"I look forward to her going for her naps, I can't wait until she goes to bed at night, so I can have time away from her," she said.

"I miss my old life, I miss just going out, I miss being able to pick up shifts at work whenever because we didn't have to worry about child care.

“I miss being able to be spontaneous with my husband."

"My friends all comment on how sad they are that their kids are growing up, but I haven't felt one pang of sadness about mine growing up,” the mum admitted.

“I relish each additional piece of independence [my daughter] gains."

Fortunately her mothering role won't be growing any time soon, as the woman confessed she simply wouldn't be able to handle another child.

"We are not having any more children, in large part due to my realizing that I actually hate motherhood," she said.

"I think this is the best decision, I would actually go crazy if we had another. Thankfully my husband is on board with this."

The post finished with the struggling mum explaining that she just hoped she wasn't the only one who "regrets having become a parent" and asked for reassurance that things would get better.

Soon the comments were flooded with other mums reassuring the woman that not only was it normal to feel the way she did, and that there were plenty of ways for her to recreate her old life.

"I had someone tell me that I should give up trying to re-create how my life was before having a baby, and that is the most sound advice I've gotten yet," a fellow mum wrote.

"It will never be the same, and as soon as I realized that, I started realizing that I don't dislike being around my son as much anymore."

Others recommended the struggling mum head back to work if she was feeling overwhelmed at home.

One mum said: "I always wanted to be a SAHM and when I got my wish I hated it and I was miserable, for many of the same reasons. Going back to work was a god send."

"Also don’t feel bad about your feelings - you aren’t the only one."

The woman later added a comment saying that she was looking into going back to work and was excited for her daughter to start preschool soon, so hopefully she'll be able to find the balance she's been craving to start to feel better about her role as a mum.
