You may think that models are naturally blessed with a healthy dose of body confidence.

However, Rachael Finch says it’s not always the case.

“As I'm getting older I feel I’m growing into my skin and becoming a lot more confident in who I am as a person and the decisions that I'm making,” the 30-year-old tells 9Honey.

Listen to the latest episode of Honey Mums, now hosted by Nine's Deborah Knight. In this week's episode Deb talks to friend and The Footy Show host Erin Molan who is expecting her first baby any day:

Finch recently posted a bikini snap of herself revealing that she would keep her weight to a maximum of 53 kilos at the start of her modelling days.

Keep in mind Finch is approximately 1.77m tall.

“Every meal felt like I was cheating,” she wrote.

Now, she’s advocating that we celebrate our bodies, rather than punish them.

“It’s so important because it plays a huge part in the way we go about our day, the decisions we make and ultimately how we grow,” she explains.

Finch tells 9Honey that after having two children, she has never respected her body more.

“Since having Violet (now four years old) and Dominic (now one-year-old), particularly Dom because my body changed a lot more after the second time round, I love my body more than I used to – even with all the different lumps and bumps,” she says.

As ambassador of Lovables liquid detergent, Finch is encouraging Aussies to feel good about their bodies, no matter what.

“We just need to embrace what we have because our bodies are incredible and take us through so much in life,” she says passionately, “why do we have to put that pressure on ourselves to get ‘the body’ back? I’m more focused on how I feel and how much energy I have so I can run around with my kids.”

While it may seem that Finch is the perfect model, mum and entrepreneur, she’s certainly not immune to online trolls.

She has come under fire for posting pictures of her post-baby body in a bikini, and for allowing her mother-in-law, Irena, to look after Violet (when she was an only child) so Finch and her husband could spend Friday night through to Sunday morning together.

But the mum-of-two simply says this scrutiny comes with the territory, and staying true to herself is how she deals.

“I’ve developed a really thick skin and at the end of the day when we close the door to our home, we know what goes on and that’s the only thing that matters,” she says.

“When the whole parenting thing was being discussed, people were writing really nasty things to me and calling me a b***h. The funny thing was, no one came up in the street and said it to my face,” she says, adding, “It’s different online.”

So, what does Finch do to keep her self-love at an all-time high?

“I schedule into my calendar something just for me like a massage and sauna session. When I get those couple of hours to myself I feel so rejuvenated, calm and connected with myself,” she says.

The down-to-earth Queenslander stresses that we shouldn’t feel guilty about doing this, either.
