'Haven't figured it out yet': Nick Cannon says he doesn't believe in 'co-parenting' despite having kids with six different women

Nick Cannon may be the father of 12 children whom he shares with six different women, including Mariah Carey, but don't refer to him as a co-parent.

The host of the US version of The Masked Singer was answering a question from a listener on his Nick Cannon @ Night podcast asking how he managed "multiple co-parenting relationships while dating".

Cannon replied that he "always kind of had an issue" with the term "co-parenting" and other labels, instead preferring to consider his role as a father as simply "parenting".

"When you start throwing labels on things, I think it does more harm than help and can get very dangerous, because then everybody else has a preconceived notion of what you're doing," Cannon said.

Cannon, 44, also bristled at the term "baby mamas" to describe the women with whom he shares his large brood.

"I don't bunch them together. I really try my hardest not to be like, 'Oh yeah, my baby mamas', you know, unless I'm telling a joke or something like that, but no one wants to be grouped into anything," he explained.

"Everyone wants to be treated like an individual with respect and compassion. I haven't figured it out yet. I haven't gotten it all the way right.

"I just step into every situation with respect and compassion and individuality. That's the other thing I always do with anyone I'm involved with in my life."

Cannon first became a father in April 2011 when he welcomed twins Moroccan and Monroe with former wife and pop icon Mariah Carey.

Then in February 2017, he welcomed son Golden with Brittany Bell.

The two went on to have two more children together, daughter Powerful Queen was born in December 2020, and son Rise Messiah arrived in September 2022.

This is where it gets confusing. The births of his three children with Bell were punctuated with other arrivals.

First he welcomed twins Zion and Zillion in June 2021 with Abby De La Rosa.

That same month he also welcomed a baby boy named Zen with Alyssa Scott, but he sadly lost his battle with a brain tumour six months later.

Next came Legendary in June 2022 with former model and Selling Sunset star Bre Tiesi.

In September 2022 he welcomed two more children – Onyx with LaNisha Cole – and Rise with Brittany Bell.

Just two months after that he welcomed two more children with two women; Beautiful with Abby De La Rosa and Halo with Alyssa Scott.

During the podcast, Cannon was also asked if all the women he has children with get along.

"No! Do you know six women anywhere that get along?" he said.

It comes just months after Tiesi addressed whether or not she was in a relationship with Cannon during an appearance on the Wednesdays podcast.

"I'd like to be very clear. We don't co-parent, we are very much together," she said.

"And that's why people are confused.

"Basically, he has other partners, and we're just open and happy and that's our thing…" she added, while also revealing she was not "a jealous person".

In 2023, Cannon told Entertainment Tonight he was not sure if he was done having kids.

"God decides when we're done," he said.

"I've got my hands full and I'm so focused on like... so as of right now... but when I am 85, you never know."

Cannon, who once rented out an entire water park to spend time with his two eldest children, also shared an insight into parenting so many kids.

"Everybody thinks it is time management. It's energy management," he said.

"As long as we are all on the same page and we've all got the same goal to be the best parents we can possibly be, that works.

"And then the scheduling is the scheduling. That's the secret. I just gave you all the secret."

During a 2022 episode of The Checkup: With Dr. David Agus, Cannon admitted it was difficult to juggle time with all his kids.

"It's always the biggest guilt on me is that I don't get to spend enough time with all my children," he said.

"One 'cause I'm constantly working and two because I'm just spread thin."
