Sydney mum captures 14-week-old son saying 'hello' on camera

A Sydney mum of three believes she’s captured her baby saying “hello” at just 14 weeks of age.

Sandra Lawson from Matraville in Sydney’s south finally managed to record the adorable moment after days of missing baby Mikey ‘speaking’ when the camera was out.

“He’s been trying to say ‘hello’ for a couple of weeks. He did say it once before [off camera] and I was like, ‘Oh hang on, did he just say that?’” Sandra tells 9Honey.

“I thought I’ll get the video out and see if he does it again, and he didn’t. So I tried again and he did it on camera.”

The video is an adorable close-up of Mikey’s face, the blue-eyed bub happily kicking and cooing away as his mum says “hello” to him. After the first few attempts where he only manages out a short noise, Mikey clear as day repeats the word.

Sandra says that since four-month-old Mikey began making noises, she has been repeatedly saying “hello” to him, prompting him to copy her. The little boy’s response has been much different to that of his older brothers, aged three and four, who Sandra says “took forever” to talk.

“[Mikey] just loves to babble on,” she laughs.

Now her youngest has begun picking up on her prompts, Sandra jokes that she will have to be careful about what she says about him.

“He’s going probably pick up all of the wrong words,” she says.
