UK TV presenter Myleene Klass says she’s banning scales for her daughters

A British TV presenter says she’ll be banning scales in the house, as she wants her daughters to focus on what’s inside.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Myleene Klass said she never wants 10-year-old Ava and seven-year-old Hero to feel that they have to live up to beauty standards.

“I’m very mindful of the language [I use] and I won’t allow scales in my house,” she said.

“I don’t want them to think their worth comes down to numbers. It’s their brains, it’s the words they speak and the thoughts they think. They are a person, they are complete. The numbers on the scales are insignificant.”

The 40-year-old, who has launched a fitness plan and has previously fronted a swimwear range, says she wants to focus on health.

“I do want them to be healthy and fit and jump around and not feel conscious in the clothes they choose to wear,” she admitted.

“I know how good I feel if I wear a dress I don’t have to hold my breath in – that’s a different set.”

The former band member and radio host says feminism has an important part to play in how she’s bringing up Ava and Hero. She praised the likes of Meghan Markle, Beyonce and Michelle Obama for being strong role models, and says she hopes females can continue to move forward and inspire her daughters.

She added: “I’m not raising princesses, I’m raising lionesses. I want them to be strong, but have compassion and kindness.”
