Miracle 'twins' mum and surrogate expecting babies at the same time

A couple has been caught off guard, discovering they're expecting a baby just one day after learning their surrogate was carrying their son.

Andrea Valentine and her husband, James, had been trying to get pregnant since they married in 2013. The couple began IVF a year later, but had no luck, with Valentine told she'd never be able to fall pregnant.

That's when neighbour Tawnee Gonzalez came to the rescue.

Over time, Gonzalez got to know Valentine and her husband and felt their pain as they desperately tried to conceive. "I said, 'If it comes down to it and you need a surrogate, I'd be willing to do it for you,'" Gonzalez, 35, recalls to PEOPLE.

The trio began the process immediately and by February 2018, Gonzalez was pregnant with a little boy. She admitted she felt the pressure of the experience, stating she "didn’t want to let them down."

A day later, the Valentines were ecstatic to learn Andrea was also pregnant via natural conception.

"We were amazed and shocked and blessed and excited and scared,” Valentine explained.

"I had already lost two babies, so it was a whole bunch of mixed emotions. We knew that it was such a miracle."

The women formed a special bond as they went through their pregnancies together. They accompanied each other to doctors' appointments, while Gonzalez – who has a 5-year-old daughter of her own – gave Valentine all the advice she could.

Gonzalez gave birth to Valentine's son Britton James Valentine three weeks early on October 19, 2018, and a month later, Valentine gave birth to a little girl, Kinsley Jade Valentine.

Now her babies are a few months old, Valentine says Britton and Kinsley are best friends and love to cuddle.

"Finally our family we so desperately wanted, we finally had,” she explained.

"We were blessed with two amazing children and they were born just 24 days apart."
