'I understand the struggle': Francesca Hung's raw admission about her road to motherhood
At almost eight months pregnant, Francesca Hung can’t wait to welcome her first child with husband Nick Lowry, but is already mindful of how she will share milestones like her baby’s birth with the world.
“It took me a while to fall pregnant, and my mum … it took her, like, 10 years to have me,” Hung tells 9honey from the Crown marquee at Oaks Day.
“So I understand the struggle and that's something that I was very aware of when I announced my own pregnancy. I wanted people know, like, please don't compare.”

The last thing she wants is for other women to compare their own journeys to motherhood with what they see her share online and end up feeling down or less than.
In the age of social media, it’s so easy to get caught up in the perfect images we see online – especially when it comes to special milestones like having children – and lose sight of the fact social media is just a highlights reel.
With more than 250,000 Instagram followers, Hung has been mindful with everything she's posted since falling pregnant earlier this year.

“I think if you can just do it in a way that also acknowledges people that might be going through their own struggles and battles, that's the best thing you can do,” she says.
The model mum-to-be even included a touching line in her pregnancy announcement acknowledging "this journey can be difficult for so many, and our hearts are with those facing their own challenges".

It was a tender touch appreciated by so many Australian women and Hung plans to keep that gentle approach moving forward.
With her due date only weeks away, Hung is "very ready" for baby to arrive, especially because she'll finally be able to wear all her favourite fashion styles again.
"It's been harder than I thought [dressing for pregnancy], your wardrobe kind of gets limited to very low rise pads or very stretchy outfits," she laughs.
"But there are so many amazing outfit opportunities these days with stretchy materials that look cool, it's not daggy maternity wear anymore. I'm very thankful I'm living in 2024."

There's nothing daggy about her Oaks Day outfit, a '60s inspired purple mini dress with a matching pillbox hat that looks like it could have come right out of the world of Mad Men.
As for beauty, Hung went for a glam look but made sure her foundation was sheer enough to let her beautiful freckles shine through.
